Richard and Louise Pappe arrive in Newton, open Bakery

Last week there arrived in this city Mr. R. Pappe and wife, who come here almost direct from German, and Mr. Joshua Drayer, from Macon, Mo. Mr. R. Pappe is a brother of H. Pappe and will have charge of the baking in Empire Bakery, and of which he will be a partner. Mr. Drayer will officiate as salesman.

The Newton Kansan, August 3, 1882

R. Pappe & Co. now have their new Empire Bakery in running operation in Marsh’s new block. Bread, cakes, etc., now on hand.

The Newton Kansan, August 24, 1882

Last Saturday R. Pappe & Co. presented the [Newton] KANSAN force with a nice plate of cake, which was baked in his new coal oil bake oven and which the boys pronounced as boss.

R. Pappe is preparing ground on south side of Howard House for a brick business house for his own use.
