Albert Pappe's Saloon - about 1905

This is probably Albert Pappe's saloon in Kingfisher. After statehood in 1907, alcohol sales were prohibited and the saloon was converted into a restaurant. At the time of his death in 1909, Albert owned and operated Pappe's German Cafe. After his death, it was sold to H.E. Eads and was known as the Merchant's Cafe. The man at the right behind the bar appears to be Albert Pappe (1883-1909).

Albert was Richard and Louise (Kornrumpf) Pappe's eldest surviving son. He died on July 13, 1909, two weeks before his 26th birthday. From an early age Albert worked alongside his father in the restaurant and liquor sales business. In the 1900 census, when Albert was 16, he lists his occupation as "lunch room."
