George Phillip Pappe was the second son of Albert Ludwig Pappe and his first wife, Helen Prettig. He was born in Tazewell county, Illinois. He moved with his parents to Nebraska in 1894 and then later to Oklahoma. In 1909 George married Lena Classen in Union, Oklahoma. George and Lena raised five children. They moved to Vale, Oregon then moved to Quincy, Washington.
