Karl Pappe Family - about 1884 > Click here to download a high resolution copy of this photo This photo from the photo collection of Louise Pappe Jersak is believed to be Karl Friedrich Ludwig Pappe (1857-?). The date of the photo was determined by the age of the child, who is probably their first child, Carl Arthur Pappe, born 2 March 1883. He appears to be between one and two years old, so the photo was probably taken between mid 1884 and early 1885. Their next child was not born until September 1886. The cut of Auguste and Carl's clothing is also consistent with this date. Note that Auguste is likely wearing a corset, which was typical of the mid 1880s. The studio of photographer that took this photo, Alfred Naumann, was located on Dorothean Strasse, which was just outside the city center on the southwest. At the time Carl was born the family lived at Moritz Strasse 4 (now called Manetstrasse, which was two blocks from the photo studio. Photo provided by Nancy Jersak Henderson |
