Heinrich Bernard Nieland Gesellen Prüfung (Journeyman Test) – 1932

Heinrich Nieland (1914-1986) was the eight child and youngest son of Anton Nieland (1878-1935) and Bernhardine (Deelmann) Nieland (1876-1946). Bernard completed his training as a butcher in 1932. This photo show's him with fellow apprentices just before their final test to advance to journeymen (Gesellen) status. Note the butcher's knife hanging from the belt of each of the young men and the sides of pork hanging from hooks behind them.

This photo is from the collecton of Bernhardine Albertine Nieland Tepper (genannt Tepper) 1912 - 2009.
