Leon John “Lynn” Eischeid 1950-2009

BAYARD—Leon "Lynn" John Eischeid, 59, died Dec. 7, 2009, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Bayard.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at St. Patrick's Church, where there will be a vigil/rosary service at 7:30 p.m.

Burial will be in the High-land Township Cemetery at Guthrie County.

A son of Gerry John and Leona Marie (Reising) Eischeid, he was born Jan. 8, 1950, in Carroll. He attended and graduated from Guthrie Center High School.

On Feb. 22, 1969, he married Cheryl Diane Hebing. The couple have owned and operated Eischeid Construction Company in Bayard since 1974.

He was a member of Iowa Farm Bureau, the Land Improvement Contractors of America, and St. Patrick's Catholic Church, also serving on the Church Parish Council. He enjoyed Iowa State athletics and his family.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Cheryl; four children: Travis Eischeid and wife Brenda of Bayard, Thaine Eischeid and wife Rachel of Grimes, Tara Janssen and husband Tim of Bayard and Tandem Eischeid of Des Moines; 15 grandchildren: Megan, Carter, Brady, Cody, Trey, Riley, Tiara, Tianna, Tinessa, Tiela, Jacob, Hayley, Casandra, Genavieve and KaeDee; a daughter-in-law, Melissa Laughery and husband Ken of Waukee; and 12 siblings.

Mr. Eischeid was preceded in death by his son, Troy in 1996; his parents; his parents-in-law, Leon and Verda Hebing; sisters: Sandra Eischeid and Gail Smith; and brothers-in-law: Larry Smith and Marvin Hebing.

Services for Leon “Lynn” Eischeid, 59, were Thursday, December 10 at St. Patrick’s Church in Bayard.

Eischeid died Monday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, surrounded by his family. He had been hospitalized and had undergone surgery on November 11 following complications from an aortic aneurism.

A visitation was held yesterday followed a Virgil/Rosary at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Interment will be at Highland Township Cemetery southwest of Bayard in Guthrie County.

Leon was born on January 8, 1950 to Gerry John and Leona Marie Reising-Eischeid in Carroll, Iowa. Born the 8th child, the first born son, of 15 siblings, he was his parent’s pride and joy. After graduating from Guthrie Center High School, Lynn met and married Cheryl Diane Hebing on February 22, 1969. Leon and Cheryl have owned and operated Eischeid Construction Company in Bayard since 1974. He was a member of Iowa Farm Bureau, Land Improvement Contractors of America, and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, also serving on the Church Parish Council.

It goes without saying that Leon was clearly an Iowa State fan. However, his love for his family and faith was ever present each day. Leon was a caring husband to his wife of 40 years, Cheryl; a proud Papa of five children and 15 grandchildren, Troy Eischeid (1969-1996), his children with Melissa (Ken) Laughery, Jacob and Hayley Eischeid, and their children, Casandra, Genavieve, and KaeDee Laughery, of Waukee; Travis (Brenda) Eischeid and their children, Brady, Cody, Trey, and Riley, of Bayard; Thaine (Rachel) Eischeid and their children, Megan and Carter, of Grimes; Tara (Tim) Janssen and their children, Tiara, Tianna, Tinessa and Tiela of Bayard; Tandem Eischeid of Des Moines; Leon is also survived by 12 siblings, over 50 nieces and nephews; over 100 great-nieces and great-nephews, many cousins and friends.

Preceding Leon in death are his son, Troy; parents, Gerry and Leona Eischeid; parents-in-law, Leon & Verda Hebing; sisters, Sandra Eischeid and Gail Smith; brothers-in-law, Larry Smith and Marvin Hebing; and nine nieces and nephews.
