Lawrence Bernard Huegerich 1909-2008

BREDA—Mass of the Christian burial for Lawrence Huegerich of Breda will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2008, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breda.

Mr. Huegerich, 98, died Monday, March 3, at Carroll Health Center.

The Rev. James McAlpin will preside at the Mass. Lectors will be Teri Kelley and Renee Schettler. Gift bearers will be Kim Fricke, Sarah Williams and Donna Vogl. Servers will be Matt Wessling and Brian Koster. Eucharistic ministers will be Eugene Nieland, Mary Thatcher and Sister Ione Nieland.

Casket bearers will be Chris Huegerich, John Wolterman, Jim Wolterman, Paul Wolterman, Steve Schettler, Tim Irlbeck and Chris Irlbeck. Honorary casket bearers will be members of the Breda Catholic Order of Foresters.

Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery at Breda.

Visitation starts at 2:30 and the Foresters will lead a rosary at 3 Thursday afternoon at Sharp Funeral Home in Breda. St. Bernard Parish will hold a Christian wake service at 7 Thursday night at the funeral home.

A son of George and Mary (Huelsing) Huegerich, he was born Aug. 27, 1909, at Mount Carmel, spent his younger years there and attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel School.

He and Cecilia Nieland were married Feb. 25, 1936, at St. Bernard Church.

The Huegerichs farmed north of Arcadia for five years then moved to a farm south of Breda. They moved into Breda in 1992.

Mr. Huegerich was a member of St. Bernard Parish and the Breda Foresters. He enjoyed word puzzles.

Survivors include his four children: Richard Huegerich and wife Linda of Breda, Mary Wolterman and husband Milo of Arcadia, Jane Schettler of Mesa, Ariz., and Betty Davis of Wall Lake; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a sister, Frances Sander, of Carroll; and a sister-in-law, Helen Nieland, of Carroll.

Mr. Huegerich was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Cecilia, in July 2000; three brothers: Ed, Clarence, and Leo Huegerich; and two sisters: Amelia Schulte and Marita Berger.
