Glenn William Steinkamp 1946-2010

Glenn Steinkamp, age 63, of Carroll, Iowa, died early Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M., Saturday, February 13, 2010, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Johnson. The casket will be taken to the church at 8 A.M. Saturday to lie in state until the time of the funeral mass. Lectors will be grandsons, Brett Nicholson and Ryan Nicholson. Gift Bearers will be grandchildren, Jacob Nicholson, Adam Daniel, Kara Daniel, Sam Steinkamp, Thomas Steinkamp, and Anna Steinkamp. Eucharistic Ministers will be Yvonne Klaver and Bev Nepple. Honorary Pallbearers will be Harry Rose and Russ Draves. Casket Bearers will be Daryl Reiman, Don Nepple, Norm Nieland, Tom Steinkamp, Jeff Steinkamp, and Dean Venteicher. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors conducted by the Breda American Legion.

Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. Friday. A rosary will be prayed at 4 P.M. Friday. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Friday by Holy Spirit Parish. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the funeral home or church for Holy Spirit Parish or St. Anthony Regional Hospital.

Mr. Steinkamp was born on November 5, 1946, at Carroll, Iowa, the son of Henry and Eleanora (Boes) Steinkamp. He attended St. Bernard School at Breda, Saint Peter and Paul Grade School in Carroll, and graduated from Kuemper High School in 1964. Glenn entered the U.S. Army in December 1966 and served overseas in Viet Nam. He was honorably discharged in November 1968. On April 12, 1969, he was married to Connie Launspach at Saint Peter and Paul Church in Carroll. The couple farmed in the Carroll area and from 1975 until 2006 they farmed the home farm east of Carroll. They moved to their home in Carroll in 2006. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, Breda American Legion, and served as a Grant Township Trustee. Glenn enjoyed his family and friends, farming, cooking, and playing golf.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Steinkamp of Carroll; his children, Kris Nicholson and her husband Tim of Rockwell City, Chad Steinkamp and his wife Roxie of Carroll, Jill Daniel and her husband Mike of Carroll, and Todd Steinkamp and his wife Kristi of Marshalltown; his grandchildren, Brett Nicholson, Ryan Nicholson, Jacob Nicholson, Adam Daniel, Kara Daniel, Sam Steinkamp, Thomas Steinkamp, and Anna Steinkamp; a sister, Verla Venteicher and her husband Paul of Carroll; brothers, Daryl Steinkamp and his wife Jean of LeMars, and Wayne Steinkamp and his wife Joyce of Clive; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Joan Launspach of Vallejo, Calif., and Bette and Forrest Burgin of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his father and mother-in-law, Clarence and Erma Launspach.
