Sophie Bernhardine Stehren was born 29 May 1900 at Dalvers bei Berge, Niedersachsen, Germany. She married Johannes Lassay in 1919 at Berge, Niedersachsen, Germany.

Sophie died 3 August 1974 at Klausheide, Germany, at age 74 years.

Johannes Lassay was born 20 December 1893 at Guri Moke, Russia, which later became Poland. Johannes also spelled his surname Lasai and it appears in many records under this spelling.

John Koester (1891-1962)

John Koester was born on 19 August 1891 at Willey, Carroll County, Iowa. (FSPA Archives list birth date as 1892). He married Emma Stangl 1914. He was registered for the draft circa 1917 Carroll County, Iowa. Emma died in 1947 and he married second Clara (Lohman) Billmeir on 2 October 1952 at the Cathedral of the Epiphany, Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa.

He appeared on the census of 1920 at Carroll County, Iowa. John (28) is enumerated in the city of Dedham in Newton Township with his wife Emma (30) and children Othmar (5), Norbert (2) and Clarence (6/12). They have a 33 year-old boarder named Henry Roather who was born in Illinois. Emma's father was born in Wisconsin and her mother in Holland. John lists his occupation as teamster. They are renting.

He appeared on the census of 1930 at Carroll County, Iowa. John (35) is enumerated in Templeton town, with his wife Emma (41) and children Othmar (15), Norbert (13), Clarence (11), Cyril (8) and Florence (6). All of the family was born in Iowa. John and Emma were 22 and 25 respectively when they married, in about 1914. They are renting and John lists his occupation as a farmer on a truck farm.

He died on 21 March 1962 at Carroll, Carroll County, Iowa, at age 70. He was buried at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Dedham, Carroll County, Iowa.

Clara Lohman (Billmeir) (Koester) (1910-1990)
Second wife of John Koester (1891-1962)

Clara Lohman, daughter of Henry Lohman and Katherine Korwes, was born on 30 September 1910 at Coon Rapids, Iowa. She married Mike Billmeir at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Dedham, Carroll County, Iowa on 23 November 1931. Mr. Billmeir died in June of 1943. There were no children of John Koester and Clara Lohman.

She died on 14 April 1990 at Carroll, Carroll County, Iowa, at age 79. She was buried on 17 April 1990 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Dedham, Carroll County, Iowa.

Theodore was killed in an automobile accident on 10 September 1956 near Willy, Carroll County, Iowa, at age 62. He was buried at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Carroll, Carroll County, Iowa

George H. Koester was born on 10 June 1895 at Dedham, Carroll County, Iowa. He was registered for the draft on June 5, 1917 and served in WWI in France. After his military service he returned to Iowa and married Veronica Nagl on 13 April 1926 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Willey, Carroll County, Iowa.

He appeared on the census of 1930 at Carroll County, Iowa. George (34) is enumerated on a farm in Newton Township with his wife Veronica (32) and children Louis W. (3 2/12) and Leonard T. (1 4/12). George and Veronica were 30 and 28 respectively when they married, about 1926. They are renting the farm.

He died on 19 October 1967 at Carroll, Carroll County, Iowa, at age 72. He was buried at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Willey, Carroll County, Iowa.
